Baphomet – The Great Goat of the Universe

Baphomet is a very interesting being to connect with. I admit that personally, I have not worked with Baphomet as much as I have worked with Mammon or Leviathan, and the work I do with Baphomet is very different. I do not get the same energies working with Baphemot as I do with Satan or Mammon, and the work I do is… I guess the word is professional? Instructional, there is less of a personal connection and more of an ok, this is what you seek, this is what you do. Transactional, that is a word that could work. I present offerings and ask, and it is given. It is a very different approach. My work with them is always respectful and always positive, but it is different.

Baphomet as a Symbole

There is a lot of symbolism around Baphomet, especially in today’s world, with them being associated with the Church of Satan and the Satanic Temple. There is also an interesting Historical Aspect to them.

Baphomet as a symbol is one that is very complex and multilayered, and it is a symbol that has evolved over the centuries. The Symbol of Baphomet involves the intertwining of various religious, occult, and cultural narratives and overall is a symbol of rich history.

Baphomet as a term first appears in the early 14th century. This was during the inquisition of the Knights Templar. The Templars were accused of worshipping a Pagan Idol named Baphomet, leading to their persecution. There is speculation that this was all just accusations to allow for the justification of King Philip IV’s arrest and persecution of the Knights Templar. Many attribute the allegations to coerced confessions under torture, noting the lack of concrete evidence supporting the existence of such an idol. The varying descriptions of Baphomet and the absence of consistent documentation further undermine the credibility of these claims.

In 1856, French occultist Éliphas Lévi introduced a new interpretation of Baphomet in his work Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie. He depicted Baphomet as a winged humanoid figure with a goat’s head, female breasts, a pentagram on its forehead, and both human and animal features. Lévi’s Baphomet symbolized the reconciliation of opposites—light and dark, male and female, human and animal—embodying the alchemical concept of “Solve et Coagula” (dissolve and coagulate), representing transformation and balance.

Baphomet has been embraced by various occult and mystical traditions. Some view them as a symbol of enlightenment and balance, encompassing elements like the torch for knowledge, the duality of gender, and the integration of opposites. Others interpret Baphomet as a representation of the “Great Magical Agent,” a force behind magic itself.

As to what I believe, I do not see Baphomet as a Demon, more of a Force, A deity in their own right, but neither demonic nor angelic, A Universal God of the Duality that exists within our world, and one who can help those who walk with them about learning about the great sacred and spiritual wisdom of not just our world and universe, but what is within the soul, and the vast wisdom and occult knowledge that is found within the Spiritual World. Their energy is unique, it feels like they are a Sacred Guardian of this world and of the vast Occult Teachings and secrets of the Universe. There are many types of spiritual beings who exist within this world…

From Scanning and energies, I would say Baphomet is a fallen Archon… In Gnosticism, Archons are celestial beings considered to be the builders and rulers of the physical universe. They are seen as powerful, flawed entities who often act as obstacles to spiritual enlightenment, preventing souls from escaping the material world.  Baphomet’s goal, though, seems to be unity and integration, allowing for ascension from the Physical world while also benefiting from its pleasures. This information is very much tied to aspects of the Inner Spiritual World, so I admit I would need to do more exploration to give more information, but Baphomet is a very layered and complex deity.

In 2015, the Satanic Temple unveiled a nine-foot bronze statue of Baphomet in Detroit. The statue features a goat-headed figure seated on a throne, flanked by two children, symbolizing the group’s advocacy for religious pluralism and the separation of church and state. Baphomet has been a symbol of modern Satanic Groups like the Church of Satan and the Temple of Satan, and I believe that is where the association with Satan and the Demons came from in regards to Baphomet, when I have never felt any demonic energies from them and see them as something else.

Baphomet has permeated popular culture, often misrepresented as an evil entity. This portrayal contrasts with its original and contemporary interpretations, which emphasize balance, enlightenment, and the fusion of opposites. The symbol continues to be a subject of fascination and debate, reflecting its complex history and evolving significance.

Offerings for Baphomet: In crafting an altar for Baphomet, we like to include objects like Pentagrams, as they are a symbol of the Five elements and very closely connected to him. Goat Figurines or Images: Since Baphomet is often depicted with a goat’s head, a small goat figurine or a carved image can be an appropriate offering. Silver or Gold Items, which represent the act of alchemical transformation of base metals into gold. Gold is also very high vibrational and can often symbolize a practitioner’s intent for transformation or spiritual elevation. Any Symbol of Alchemy: Any Symbol of Alchemy, both personal and academic, is an acceptable offering for Baphomet.
